There are several high blood pressure remedies that people take to counter the effects of hypertension. If you are suffering from high blood pressure, or you have some family history that puts you at risk, you should understand the relationship between CoQ10 and blood pressure. Hypertension affects nearly two in five adults, and because in most of the cases it shows no visible symptoms, it may go on for years in many of them and they may know anything about this problem.
What is it that causes hypertension?

According to AHA (American Heart Association), there is no single cause of hypertension, as there is always a combination of factors that are responsible for this disorder. Most of them are directly related to lifestyle you lead, such as your body mass, how active your lifestyle is, your stress levels, whether you consume alcohol and tobacco, and quality of your diet.

Of course, in some cases high blood pressure is due to underlying conditions such as thyroid disease, kidney disease, adrenal gland disease, and hormonal disorders. All these problems may lead to secondary hypertension, while kind of lifestyle you have may lead to primary hypertension. No matter which group you fall into, you should know all about CoQ10 and blood pressure control.

What is CoQ10?
CoQ10 (Coenzyme Q10) is produced naturally in the body; but, like several other body defenses, the amount of this coenzyme goes on decreasing with age. All those who suffer from high blood pressure have been tested for low levels of CoQ10. In fact, many studies done in the past six years have show that taking CoQ10 supplements will help you in lowering your blood pressure.

Being a coenzyme, it has two parts, one is vitamin like substance that is found in each cell of the body, and plays an important role on its ability to generate energy. CoQ10 is vital for maintaining the health of tissues, cells, and organs. The second part of this enzyme facilitates hundreds of chemical reactions in the body, and also acts as a catalyst in all these reactions. Being a powerful antioxidant, it helps in destroying free radicals in the body.

CoQ10 is manufactured in the body and contains vitamin B6, B12, C, folate and niacin, and also helps body in converting tyrosine into coenzyme Q10. It is stored in kidneys, liver, and heart but its quantity goes on decreasing with age. Therefore, taking CoQ10 supplements will help in reducing blood pressure in both men and women.

An 8 weeks study conducted on 12 participants with high blood pressure treated all of them with 90 mg of CoQ10 supplement twice a day. On the completion of the study, there was an average drop of 14 percent drop in systolic pressure (162 mm Hg to 134 mm Hg) and in diastolic blood pressure (97 mm Hg to 76 mm Hg). There was also an improvement in the cholesterol levels of most of these participants.

The connection between CoQ10 and blood pressure is irrefutable, and the CoQ10 benefits show that you should consider including CoQ10 supplements to ensure good overall heart. However, besides this supplement, you should also include many more heart healthy nutrients in your diet, as this will help you in keeping yourself fit and healthy.
